Ausweb has been advised by our legacy registrar Distribute IT that .co.uk customer domains have been migrated to a new IPS TAG, namely PLANETDOMAIN-AU.
Emails from the .uk registry were sent out unintentionally regarding this, however Ausweb would like to advise you as a customer that this is a legitimate administrative action by the Netregistry Group (Distribute IT's new owner) and should not be a cause for concern.
For additional information, here is the service announcement we have received:
Historically, DistributeIT registered all .uk domain names through a reseller account under the Nominet accredited registrar Tucows. We recently identified a bug in the Tucows API that was hindering the successful processing of some domain name server updates for .uk domain names via the Partner Console.
To resolve this issue, we investigated updating these .uk domains in bulk to change the IPS-TAG from the reseller account (TUCOWS-CA) to a direct accreditation held by Netregistry Group (PLANETDOMAIN-AU), allowing us to connect directly to the .uk registry and partners could then manage the domains directly through Partner Console.
Whilst we contacted the .uk registry to confirm that no emails would be sent to domain registrants when an IPS-TAG is changed, we were unaware (and it was not flagged during the testing process) that the Tucows system had been configured to send an automated email to the registrant of each .uk domain name when an IPS-TAG was updated.A service notification was scheduled to be sent as soon as this bulk update was completed, however unfortunately it has come to our attention that a plain text email was sent by Tucows around midday today (AEST). The recipients were the registrant email addresses on record in the .uk registry, unfortunately this means that some end clients may have received this email.
This IPS-TAG change would have affected all .uk domain names that are registered within Partner Console accounts. Please note, DistributeIT resellers are not required to make any changes, these have been done for you.
